As Matchday 3 in the Premier League approaches let's take a look at each game of the weekend and some storylines to follow. I'll even do score predictions for each game so everyone can see how useless score predictions are. I'll do this from here on out and see how many I get right each week. It's Matchday 3 ya'll.
Let’s start things off with Tottenham vs Watford.
The Harry Kane saga is over with the striker committing to stay at Spurs this season. He should get the start this weekend as they go up against Watford who shouldn't put up too much of a fight against the superior Spurs team. 2-0 to Spurs as Kane gets a goal and sets up another in front of the Spurs fans.
Can Manchester United bounce back with what is normally a tough away game against Wolves? Wolves have been lacking teeth in attack so far this season (mind the pun), and after Leicester and Spurs it doesn't get easier with Man U. 3-1 to Man U as Wolves is left still searching for their first points.
Also the return of the prodigal son. CR7 comes back to the team that helped him become a legend. Does he make a cameo or do they wait to give him his debut at Old Trafford? I lean towards that. So many questions now for the Man U line up going forward.
Burnley vs. Leeds
Both teams are struggling to find some rhythm this season. I don't expect this to be a fun watch, and if it is, it most likely means Leeds is running away with it. It’s a tight game that finishes 2-1 Leeds.
West Ham vs. Crystal Palace.
Crystal Palace still hasn’t scored under new coach Patrick Viera. Maybe they can score against the West Ham defense. They’ll need to stop the West ham offense though as they’ve scored a league leading 8 goals. The Hammers use their nickname and make Crystal Palace the nail. 3-0 West Ham.
Brighton vs. Everton
Brighton sit in a surprising fourth position after two games. This game will show if they are more of a real deal or just benefitting from an easy early schedule. The Gulls get brought back down to earth 3-1 to Everton.
Arsenal vs. Man City
4-2 to Man City. Just too much talent for Man City. Arsenal scored their first goals of the season with Pierre Emerick Aubameyang starting, but the pressure really starts to build on Arteta to get some results.
Aston Villa vs Brentford
This should be an entertaining game and it wouldn’t surprise me if either team ends up on top. I’ll go for a draw in this one 1-1 and Ivan Toney scores his first of many premier league goals.
Norwich vs Leicester
After Norwich brushed aside Bournemouth in midweek cup action expect to see some changes in the starting line up this weekend. You can’t say Norwich isn’t trying to stay up as they brought in another youngster in Brandon Williams from Manchester United. Can they score their first goal? Maybe? Will Leicester score? Definitely. 3-1 as the foxes display their cunning attack.
Relegation Station game of the week:
Newcastle vs. Southampton in what is sure to be a battle. Newcastle has been leaky in defense and it may be just what the saints need. An own goal from Man U last week saw them grab an unlikely point. If Newcastle want to stay out of the bottom three this season they need to figure out that defense that has given up 6 goals already on the season.
Game of the week is Liverpool vs. Chelsea.
It will be a test for Liverpool’s back line going up against Lukaku. I think Allison will need to be at his best to help Liverpool here. I don’t think Virgil van dijk and Joel Matip have enough game fitness to contend with the physical play of Lukaku. Watch for Liverpool to start Fabinho in the holding midfielder spot and Henderson and Thiago. Klopp will probably go for experience to help control the midfield. Andy Robertson is healthy, and I think he gets the start. Kosta tsimikis has done very well in the two games covering for injured Andy but it’s Andy Robertson and you have to play a healthy Andy. I don’t expect any change up top as that front free of Mane, jota and Salah keep scoring goals. Firmino will come off the bench as he has the past two games. Don’t expect to see Harvey Elliot this week as Chelsea may be too tall a task for the youngster even if he played well last week. This will be a very fun watch for the neutral and a very tense watch for either set of fans. I take the easy way out on this and say 2-2.
